A fig land in the fertile Aydın plain
Located on the İzmir–Aydın highway and railway line, Germencik stands out with its figs, olives and warm hospitality. The district offers a lively local life thanks to its fertile soil, deep-rooted production culture and rich heritage.
The district’s symbol, the fig, is more than a crop; it’s a way of life at the centre of production, trade and cultural events. The annual Fig Festival turns the town into a celebration with stage performances, parades and local delicacies.
57% of the world’s dried fig production is in Türkiye, and the majority is supplied by Aydın. Aydın holds roughly a 75% share in dried figs and 62% in fresh figs. Germencik is one of the country’s key hubs, covering about 23% of Türkiye’s dried fig crop—placing the district in a strategic position nationally and internationally.
Beyond agriculture, Germencik attracts visitors with Magnesia Ancient City, Mursallı Church and the Virgin Mary Bath. With nature walks, local markets and family-friendly activities, it offers a calm yet rich experience.
